On March 13, 2010, in Paris, Tennessee, eager participants from Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, and Tennessee engaged in Free Throw competition sponsored by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Twenty-four contestants in three age groups vied for the opportunity to compete on the national level in Springfield, MA.

Tennessee was well represented in all age groups and came away with a clean sweep in the 8-9 year old category. Representing the Cumberland County Lodge 2751, Gracee Dishman from Crossville won the girls’ shoot. Holt Richardson from Fayetteville, representing Fayetteville Lodge 1792, won the boys’ division. Holt Richardson recorded a perfect score in his attempt-hitting five practice shots and following that with 25 successive shots for score. At the time of this shoot, no one else had scored a perfect score in any Regional Competitions. Later in the day a young man from Iowa also shot a perfect score--this will make strong competition in Springfield.

Tennessee continued its winning ways in the 10-11 year old category with Sofia Stomatiadis from Cleveland Lodge 1944 winning in the girls’ division. Hunter Hudson from Trenton, representing Trenton Lodge 1279, won second place in the 10-11 year old boys’ division after a shoot off. Asa Woodward from Martin, representing Dresden Lodge 2373, won third place in the 12-13 year old girls’ division. Jeremy Houston, representing Johnson City Lodge 825, won third place in the 12-13 year old boys’ division after shooting 3 of 5 in a shoot off. Congratulations to all the contestants from Tennessee.

Gracee, Holt, and Sofia, good luck as you compete in national competition in Springfield, MA on April 24, 2010.
